Welcome to Xu's space
I am currently an M.S. student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Cornell University. I am working in Prof. Robert Shepherd’s Organic Robotics Lab (ORL). My research at Cornell focuses on the flow battery design for applications in soft robots.
In 2018, I was selected as a Forbes Under 30 Scholar by Forbes Magazine. I also participated in the National Science Foundation’s UNY I-Corps ‘Clean Energy’ Short Course, and was selected into the inaugural cohort for the W.E. (Women Entrepreneurs) Cornell Program (22 at Cornell), which helps STEM women commercialize their innovations and overcome the challenges of leading a growing technology-based business. In 2019, I was named as an BP Advancing Energy Scholar (30 in the world) and featured by BP plc as a Future Energy Leader (11 in the world) to attend the One Young World Summit in London. In the same year, I was also selected into the Clinton Global Initiative University (11 at Cornell) by the Clinton Foundation. I'm featured by SPARK - Energy Re-Imagined to speak at the Hydrogen Stream in London, UK (2020).
Before coming to Cornell, I received my M.A.Sc degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada in 2018. My research at UBC focuses on the electrochemistry of solar cells, which leads to a Top 100 Prize in "Create the Future” Design Contest by NASA Tech Briefs in 2018.
Prior to joining UBC, I received my M.Eng. degree from the International Research Center for Renewable Energy (IRCRE) in School of Energy and Power Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) in 2016 with the research focusing on photoelectrochemical water splitting. I have published two first-authored journal articles (which generated 25 citations) on Int. J. Hydrog. Energy, and received the National Scholarship (Top 0.2%) by the Ministry of Education China. I have also been serving as a referee for Int. J. Hydrog. Energy since 2018.
I received my B.Eng. degree in Thermal Energy & Power Engineering from Shandong University of Technology and Science in 2013.
